Head of Production Engineering, Gamesys
Roberto started messing around with servers and network equipment during the early days of University, over 15 years ago; until in 2007 he decided to place smart bets and start working in the emerging online gambling sector.
Over the past 12 years, Roberto’s career development has paralleled Gamesys', and it’s been quite a journey! Starting as a relatively Junior NOC Engineer, forming the foundations of today’s 24x7 NOC operation, he eventually moved on to Systems Reliability Management focusing primarily on technical escalation operations and systems integration.
Thereafter he moved on as an Infrastructure Architect where he was responsible for the deployment of the first iteration of Gamesys' private cloud, and finally as the Head of Production Engineering Group. PEG is his brainchild which was brought into being in 2014 by merging all his previous roles and competencies. Today it’s a team of 19 people.
Roberto’s key responsibilities encompass devising the strategy, influencing the design and overseeing the actual implementation of the infrastructure solutions for the production and staging environments, including the integration of applications and third-party solutions for the operation of the Gamesys platforms. Working very closely with Technical Architects, Solutions Architects and Software Engineers he’s an avid follower of the DevOps movement where collaboration and communication are key elements of the SDLC. It's quite a cultural change but Roberto considers one of his personal challenges bridging the gap between Devs and Ops people, hence one of his key aims is to pursue PEG’s growth based on the DevOps ethos.
One of Roberto’s recent key achievements at Gamesys include spearheading the project behind the delivery of the latest private cloud infrastructure platform named GAIA (Gamesys Adaptive InfrAstructure). On top of this, he’s also been actively involved in a key programme named Accelerate Delivery. It’s an ongoing transformation programme, involving numerous departments across the business, with the aim to measure and improve software delivery performance, provide visibility via key industry standard KPIs and accelerate the journey towards Continuous Delivery.
Gamesys’ employees strive to “Have fun, making fun”!
